Urinals for men have been around for a long time while solutions for other people’s need have been neglected. We have all seen the endless lines for toilet cabins at festivals and other events. 90% of the people in line are women who have to pee with only two options: going without peeing or finding an improvised and unsafe place to pee. Both are highly problematic and degrading.
Lapee is a game-changing innovation that solves a long-standing example of gender inequality; a urinal giving women and people who need to pee squatting a quick, safe, and hygienic way out. It uses no water, electricity, or toilet paper, and is not only an award-winning efficient design product, but also a greener option to any sanitation set-up.
The product is developed together with the SP Group-company, Danish-based Dan-Hill Plast A/S, and is a winner of The Danish Design Award 2022 ‘Game Changer of the Year’. Lapee sets a new and green standard in the world of sanitation. Producing the urinal from recycled plastics makes it a hygienic and sustainable choice in the sanitation industry. It is a very durable product with a long lifetime.
Lapee is easy to spot and can accommodate three users at a time. The curved walls offer privacy and protection. The elevated position offers empowerment and makes it easy to oversee the nearby area. By being neon pink and loud, Lapee wants to break the shame around sanitation and help raise awareness about unequal access and unsafe sanitation in the world. Currently, a version to improve sanitation to people in developing countries is being developed.
Despite being a new product, Lapee is already sold in 16 countries and can be found in very different situations. One can spot a Lapee anywhere from private weddings to the biggest half marathon in the world, local skate festivals, public spaces, after skiing in the Norwegian mountains and huge music festivals like Roskilde Festival and Primavera Sound.
